THE MUSEUM OF KYOTO (075-222-0888)

The Museum of Kyoto is a comprehensive cultural facility whose purpose is simply to introduce the history and culture of Kyoto. In addition to an exhibition of historic Kyoto using mockups and films, arts and crafts closely associated with the city are displayed in the Crafts Room. Masterpieces of the cinema are screened in the Film Room. The museum annex was formerly the Kyoto Branch of the Bank of Japan. As representative of the Western-style buildings that were constructed in Japan during the Meiji Period, it has been designated as the national important cultural asset.

Special Exhibition
"The One Hundred Years of Noritake Design: From Old Noritake to Dinner Ware"

This exhibition displays a variety of gorgeous decorative designs created by Noritake founded as Nippon Toki Kaisha Ltd. in 1904. The essence of Old Noritake tableware with Japan’s outstanding technology over the past hundred years is on display.

Permanent Exhibition
"Ike no Taiga and Hina Dolls"

The doll decorations are displayed in girls' festival in spring. Masterpieces of the decorations from the Museum's new and old collection are displayed, together with the works of Ike no Taiga, a painter and calligrapher in the Edo period.
