"Avant-Garde China:Twenty Years of Chinese Contemporary Art"

The exhibition presents a comprehensive overview of Chinese art during the last 20 years of tumultuous period in China. While Japan was experiencing the bubble economy and a subsequent period of stagnation in the 80s and 90s, what was happening in China and who were the main figures in art activities? The answer lies in these powerful works by a group of some ten Chinese artists, including Huang Yong Ping, Zhang Huan and Ma Liuming.

This exhibition presents the work of Seiichi Niikuni (1925-1977, born in Miyagi), the leading Japanese figure in the international post-war art movement known as "concrete poetry", which attempted to link poetry and art.
