"Exhibition of Kansetsu Hashimoto"

Born in Kobe in 1883 as the son of a Confucianist scholar, Kaikan Hashimoto, Kansetsu Hashimoto was trained from boyhood in Confucian scriptures and Chinese classics. He moved to Kyoto in 1903, to study with Seiho Takeuchi, and also became a man of letters. He died, aged 61, in 1945. His works reflect the profound nature of his education and are influenced by his formal studies at the Shijo School. Incorporating techniques employed by artists of all countries and periods, they are dynamic, elegant and magnificent. His artistry is widely recognized and the sixty masterpieces displayed at this exhibition testify to the quality of his achievements.

"Odilon Redon"

The French painter Odilon Redon was active during the latter part of the 19th century and the early 20th century. His sensitivity, sharpened both by loneliness and an extraordinary imagination in his isolated life, led him to depict in his works a mysterious world of dreams and fantasy, which continues to impress us to this day. This exhibition features some 200 works from the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Gifu. This is one of the very rare occasions when so many of Redon's works can be seen in one place in Japan.
