THE MUSEUM OF KYOTO (075-222-0888)

The Museum of Kyoto is a comprehensive cultural facility whose purpose is simply to introduce the history and culture of Kyoto. In addition to an exhibition of historic Kyoto using mockups and films, arts and crafts closely associated with the city are displayed in the Crafts Room. Masterpieces of the cinema are screened in the Film Room. The museum annex was formerly the Kyoto Branch of the Bank of Japan. As representative of the Western-style buildings that were constructed in Japan during the Meiji Period, it has been designated as the national important cultural asset.

Special Exhibition"The Treasures of the Musée Fesch: "Collections of Italian and Napoleonic works"

This Exhibition of items from the collection of the Fesch Museum in Corsica, France, features Italian paintings of the 17th and 18th centuries, displaying the brilliance of Baroque and Rococo art. Various works associated with the Napoleon family, which is Corsican, are also on display. Some eighty works, including Botticelli's “Madonna with Child and Angels”, are on view for the first time in Japan.

"Shirakaba - "Pilots of Art in Modern Japan"

“Shirakaba” was a literary magazine which also introduced paintings and sculptures to its readers. This exhibition features masterpieces featured by the magazine, together with others displayed in exhibitions held by coteries of the publication and with works by painters and sculptors associated in various ways with “Shirakaba”. It illustrates the important role that the magazine has played in the evolution of modern art.
