Spring Special Exhibition
"The Eurasian Winds toward Silla"

The Korean kingdom of Silla, which was born in the 4th century, was the source of a unique culture, influenced by that of Western Eurasia. In the 7th century, it grew to become the dominant dynasty in Korea. Silla's crowns, swords, Roman glassware, rhytons, metalware and golden ornaments illustrate the brilliance of its culture, which has much in common with those of Europe, Western and Central Asia, as well as with the Japanese culture of the Kofun (Tumulus) Period. This exhibition is specifically structured for Japan with the idea and the display of exhibits of “Silla Meets West Asia” held in Korea's Gyeongju National Museum and Jeju National Museum from September 2008 until February 2009. Visitors can enjoy the culture of gold which flourished at the eastern end of Eurasia by comparing relics of West and East. It illustrates the role played by Silla in the movement of Continental Culture which still remains in Japan.
