KOBE CITY MUSEUM (078-391-0035)

Hundredth Special Exhibition
"Best collections of Kobe City Museum Beauty and History to be handed down to the Future"

This summer, Kobe City Museum will stage its hundredth special exhibition since it opened in November 1982. Some 155 of the finest works in the collection will be on display throughout the museum.
Exhibits include famous masterpieces such as bronze bells and halberds (National Treasures) unearthed at Sakuragaoka; the portrait of St. Francis Xavier and the Namban Byobu (Important Cultural Properties) often seen in text books; and the "Small Map of Japan" by Tadataka Ino, as well as other artifacts whose worth has been rediscovered through recent study. This exhibition differs somewhat from previous ones. Items such as imported Western-influenced works of art collected by Hajime Ikenaga and old maps collected by Namba and Akioka are from the Museum's collection and accounts of their history are features of this exhibition.
This event promises fresh excitement and discovery not only to people visiting it for the first time but also to those who have done so before. Everyone can enjoy the beauty and the history of these exhibits.
