THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF MODERN ART, KYOTO (075-761-4111)

The collection of the Museum consists mainly of modern arts of the world, with a particular emphasis on the artists or artistic movements in the Kansai and the western districts of Japan. The collection also includes outstanding modern Japanese style paintings and crafts of the Kyoto School as well as ceramic arts and photographs of the world. The Museum regularly holds both permanent exhibitions to display works mainly from their collection and special exhibitions with a special theme.

Temporary Exhibition "Exhibition of works by Ryonosuke Shimomura"

This event commemorates the tenth anniversary of the death of Ryonosuke Shimomura (1923-1998), who created a new world of expression in the Japanese-style painting. With its display of important works from his Panreal period through to the end of his life, the exhibition introduces all aspects of the life of this anti-establishment artist.

Co-exhibition "Arts & Crafts : From William Morris to Mingei"

The Arts and Crafts Movement pioneered by William Morris at the end of the 19th century exerted its influence across the world. This exhibition of over 200 works examines the development of the movement in England, where it was born, in Europe and in Japan.
